In-house workshops

Would you like to improve the child-centred activities and playful learning you offer? Would you like to create a space where children enjoy the benefits of playing for play’s sake? Are you looking for easy ways to incorporate play into the Curriculum for Excellence? Our practical workshops can help with all the above!
They are particularly aimed at ELC settings and schools, though may also be of interest to other settings.

The workshops will equip you with practical, fun, and time-efficient play ideas to engage children in your aims. We can advise on linking playful activities to the curriculum and incorporating this into educational planning, plus tell you more about the theory behind the importance of play. All workshops include guidance on facilitating play activities and provide opportunities for professional reflection in a dynamic, active, and fun-filled training session you will remember

Cardboard City
You will be able to let your imagination run wild with this outdoor/indoor activity. With nothing more than your own ideas and cardboard boxes, you will get the chance to create, destroy and have fun whilst co-creating a cardboard city. Through this, you will experience and discuss the wide range of playful learning that can be inspired by this simple activity and its value to children and their development. This workshop would be useful to many types of settings. We would ask you to collect some cardboard recycling in preparation for this.

Den Building
This outdoor workshop will connect you with nature and inspire some friendly competition (through a den building race)! Den building is incredibly fun and worthwhile for children of all ages. Our workshop will give you the chance to explore the benefits and practicalities in an enjoyable, supportive and reflective environment. You will also learn about the developmental benefits and potential curricular learning that can be fostered. We’ll bring the equipment; you bring the enthusiasm!
Pavement Painting
Let your creative juices flow and prepare to get messy! The facilitator will demonstrate different techniques and provide you with a wealth of outdoor art ideas – from spiral art, to mindfulness painting, to powder paint bombs! You will get the chance to try them all. We will give you practical ideas for incorporating this activity and others into educational settings, reducing the barriers to playing with paint, and tapping into the developmental benefits of play.
Barmy Bugs
This structured activity is particularly relevant to schools though suitable for all settings. It is tailored to enable teachers to incorporate playful learning into the wider curriculum with ease. You will try out the activity before reflecting on how to tailor this to your pupils’ needs. We will provide planning aids clearly linking this activity with the CfE. Feel the awe and excitement that children experience when they inspect a millipede up close for the first time! You will pick up great ideas and resources for incorporating it into your daily literacy or your topic mathematics.
