Out2Play

Out2Play runs at the following times and sites:

  • Tuesday – Bonnybank Play Area (Gorebridge), 3:30-5pm

  • Wednesday – Clarinda Gardens Play Area (Woodburn) 3:30-5pm

  • (1st Wednesday of the month) - St David's RC Primary School (Dalkeith) 3-5pm

  • Thursday – Oak Crescent Park (Mayfield), 3:30-5pm

  • Friday (session 1) – Thornybank Square (Dalkeith), 12:45-2.15pm

  • Friday (session 2) - Grassy area by the Bowling Club (Easthouses) 3.15-4.45pm

The sessions are aimed at children living near the above greenspaces, encouraging outdoor play close to home. The sessions reduces safety concerns around playing out and build positive connections in the community.

Our team takes various resources, including sports equipment, craft materials and loose parts (such as large pieces of fabric, crates and guttering). Children have the opportunity to take part in wide-ranging opportunities including using fire bowls, den-building and messy play.

Children can play as they choose, for as long as they want to stay at the session. The sessions are drop-in and children are free to come and go from these public spaces.

If parents/carers are happy for their child(ren) to play out in parks without them, they can attend without an adult. Otherwise an adult should attend the sessions with the child(ren). Children under five should always be accompanied by an adult.

Adults who drop their child(ren) off at a session and plan to pick them up later must be aware that they are still responsible for their child(ren) at all times. When children are unaccompanied during the session, we will always assume this is because parents/carers are happy for their child(ren) to play unaccompanied in their local greenspace.

It is advisable that only local children who can travel independently to and from the session attend without an adult present throughout. Our team may need to leave a session before the advertised end time, due to, for example, bad weather or safety concerns. If this happens, it is expected children will know what to do.
